Target FINALLY Addresses the 'Gun Issue,' asks Shoppers to Not Carry Guns While Shop

Every day at Target, in everything we do, we ask ourselves what is right for our guests? We make all of our decisions with that question in mind. Questions have circulated in recent weeks around Target’s policy on the “open carry” of firearms in its stores. Today, interim CEO, John Mulligan, shared the following note with our Target team members. We wanted you to hear this update from us, too.The leadership team has been weighing a complex issue, and I want to be sure everyone understands our thoughts and ultimate decision.
As you’ve likely seen in the media, there has been a debate about whether guests in communities that permit “open carry” should be allowed to bring firearms into Target stores. Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so. But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target – even in communities where it is permitted by law.
We’ve listened carefully to the nuances of this debate and respect the protected rights of everyone involved. In return, we are asking for help in fulfilling our goal to create an atmosphere that is safe and inviting for our guests and team members.
This is a complicated issue, but it boils down to a simple belief: Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create.

Some TOTALLY REASONABLE and TOTALLY TRUE comments:

This is just to shut up the anti gunners. Going back to Target with my gun today and tomorrow and whatever days I want.
-Kory Watkins

I guess he is right, what will target do? Start a war with a bunch of gun toting wingnuts?

Quote:

I see a lot of ludicrous statements in this thread. Being that it is a request, I say to Target: No, I will not give up my rights to your request and will continue to conceal carry when on your premises while I am out and about.
-R. Alexander Spoerer

They asked nicely, I answered no...

I will feel sad when the criminals who don't care about the law, or your life start robbing and attacking people at target.

Because before you started bringing your guns to the Target pissing contest, this happened all the time, right?

Quote:

Well good - You can do this - you own the store. You can infringe on my 2nd amendment rights - you did 25 years ago by not selling cartridges - I haven't shopped their since and now I will have ANOTHER GOOD REASON not to come in your store. I will tell everyone whom listens about you mentalDeficiencies of Hoplophobia that put my family and myself in danger.
-Donald Simmons

Your average gun owner, bask in his glory (and grammar)!

To those who assert that the mere *sight* of a firearm - in a holster, etc. frightens you...Really???? I feel that you have a very disturbed sensibility that has been negatively conditioned by media distortions. It has been empirically demonstrated that crime goes down when citizens are armed, your squeamishness to the contrary notwithstanding. Your blind trust in firearms in the possession of "authorities" is problematic as well. Recent reports suggest that more than 1 in 10 police shootings are "questionable." So should we prohibit firearms carried by police as well? I live in an open carry state, and I've not seen any issues when I shop at Target. Of course, Target just closed the store nearest my home, so it's going to be easy for me to never set foot in another Target again unless this nonsense is repealed. If you don't want honest citizens to be able to carry their firearms openly, then you need to do the hard work of changing the laws in your jurisdiction, not use emotional blackmail to intimidate businesses into circumventing the laws by implementing policies that discriminate against honest citizens exercising their constitutional rights. Who will be next if your unconsidered squeamishness is to be the sole arbiter? Persons of certain races, or wearing certain clothing, having tattoos, etc.? Be careful what you wish for!

I would like to see the number of shooting by private citizens are questionable. My bet is many more then police shootings.

But then again, they likely are not questionable to you, eh?

Makes me glad I don't shop at target to begin with. Open carry isn't dangerous, its the concealed criminals you need to worry about!
-Wolf's Song

Obviously it is people with concealed carry permits you have to worry about!

...Yes, lets pretend thats what he means.

Quote:

I believe in MY safety when out shopping. Therefore I will continue to carry. I carry concealed so that's not an issue for the butthurt "moms". My out of sight can be their out of mind. But rest assured if target posts property signage in my community that makes it illegal for me to shop there while carrying I will no longer give them dollar one for my consumer goods.
-Buffy Fox Dickensen

Yes because a PRIVATE business banning you from bringing in your dick enlarger clearly means they are making it illegal.

HINT: I could open a business and ban anyone from bringing in paper money if I wanted, coins only. It's called private business, bitch.

Quote:

You have a right to forbid legal concealed carry on your private property. However, your stand against self-defense by peaceful citizens announces to criminals that I have a target on my back when I enter Target. So I just won't enter Target anymore.
-Gary A. Smith

I'm sure crackheads and other armed robbers really care that target now doesnt want open carry in their store. After all, they always pick places where guns are not present, right?

Quote:

Within a month of Jack in the Box banning guns in their restaurants, they were hit twice by armed robbers. They had not been hit in the previous 6 months. Coincidence?!?!
Oh wow. Shitty chain store gets robbed twice after banning guns. Must be related, right?

Quote:

I'm sorry that Target was put in this position. They will no longer get any money from me. I refuse to shop at a store that does not want me to have the tools to protect my son.
-Craig Vt

I am always esspecially sad when I hear about gun owners who have kids in the house. Its like Russian roulette; sometimes they are responcible and lock up their penis enhancers, other times you hear about them in the news.
