Since my best friend of two years left my school at the end of last year, we haven't really seen each other much at all, and we've only texted a little bit. The last time I saw her was in the last week before school started again, so that was about five months ago. We used to see each other and text each other everyday, but not anymore.
The only reason we kept texting is to discuss a school dance that we agreed to go to together. She called me while I was on my break at work and we talked for about fifteen minutes. This was the first time I'd heard her voice in five months. She seemed happy to talk to me, so we were still on good terms. She told me she was living in the city now (Melbourne), and she had a new job that paid a huge amount of money. I asked her what it was, and she said "well I'm not technically a prostitute, but I'm like an escort girlfriend." I was kind of shocked, because she's only 16 and I'm sure that's not allowed. She said her 'pimp' has given her an apartment, and she gets heaps of money.
I told her I was jealous that she lived in the city, cause I really wanted to, and she said I should come over to her apartment and stay the night (I don't know in what capacity she meant 'stay the night.' She's known for being very... generous... towards her male friends). She asked if I was doing anything on Saturday, and while I was actually meant to go and catch up with two of my other friends, I told her I was free. I know it's shitty I cancelled on the others, but she was my best friend and I hadn't seen her in five months. The next night we texted and she said she had to go into the city to do some stuff, and that I could come if I wanted. I said I would, and she told me to catch a train into there at 10am.
So just an hour ago now she texted me, waking me up ten minutes before my alarm went off, and said she had to work suddenly, because they had no one else. She said she'd text me later and let me know if she could still see me. She then just texted me like right now apologising and saying she'd buy us lunch at some point.
I guess I'm really disappointed and sad. This is the second time she's had to cancel on us catching up in the past two weeks. Before we were meant to meet at a shopping centre near my school when I finished early that day, but she didn't show up, and later texted me saying her phone ran out of charge and she was too far away. She assured me we'd catch up again, so I asked if the weekend was good for her, and she said yes and that she'd let me know. She never got back to me.
It's not that she's deliberately trying not to see me, I think, but I don't know, it's really frustrating and disappointing. I really wanna see her again, and I think she at least wants to see me again, but it just never ends up happening. I suppose she is pretty busy with her new job, and since there are no set hours she can't know when she is free, but it still annoys me and makes me kind of sad. I come so close to finally seeing her again, and then it just doesn't happen. It makes me wonder why I even bother, honestly.
