Locker room etiquette

Hi guys,
I noticed that there are a ton of people who are asking questions about stuff that happens in the locker room, and whether it is acceptable or not. Since I am a frequent user of locker rooms, I feel that it is my duty to make others aware of some basic rules of the locker room. Feel free to disagree with me.

1. Locker rooms are places to change clothing, shower, use a sauna or steam room, etc. Because of this, you get naked. If you have a problem with someone else of the same gender getting naked around you, you have bigger things to worry about than this, because you're the one that's making things awkward.

2. That being said, there is no excuse for being obnoxiously naked. This probably isn't a problem for teens, but if you are one of those people that insists on doing everything in the nude and getting in people's way, S T O P.

3. Don't do the towel dance (when you wrap yourself in a towel and then try to get your underwear and pants on and off without anyone else seeing). It's really annoying to have these people standing on one leg trying to pull their underwear up. Today, this guy next to me was doing the towel dance and lost his balance, and put his hand on my face to keep himself steady. Not cool. As I said earlier, we're all guys, so if you're uncomfortable being naked or being around naked people, don't go to the gym.

4. In the shower, don't pee. Just don't do it. That is really disgusting.

5. Again, in relation to the shower, don't take my towel. And don't swap my towel out for yours, because when I go and pick up your towel thinking that it's mine, I'm putting my hands on your ass sweat. Don't do that to me.

6. In a room where everyone is naked, just accept that people are going to be checking each other out in comparison. While you shouldn't stare, know that everyone is doing it.

7. Since you're surrounded by naked bodies, and you probably just got your testosterone going from a workout, you might pop a boner. You might see someone with a boner. IT'S FINE. No one's gonna judge you, and if they do, they can deal with it. No one can control it, and it doesn't mean that you're gay. In fact, one of my gay friends said that he's less likely to get an erection in the locker room because there's tons of fat, smelly guys, and that doesn't turn them on. After you get used to being nude around strangers, they'll most likely stop happening.

8. But just because it's acceptable to have an erection does NOT mean that it's acceptable to jerk off in the shower, or locker area, or common room, or sauna where there are other people around. That's really off-putting and creepy.

9. If you absolutely need to get off in the locker room, because of whatever, you do it in the bathroom stall, or an empty area. No lie, it is kinda exhilarating to jerk off in a sauna or steam room, and there is a thrill to do it in a place where people might walk in at any moment, but if someone does walk in, then you're breaking rule #8. I would just not do it. And if you do, CLEAN UP YOUR CUM. Nobody wants to step in that.

10. When you go into the sauna or steam room, I would recommend going naked, because that's where the most health benefits come from, and it's far more relaxing. But please at least sit on a towel, ass prints are unattractive.

11. However, DO NOT wear a bathing suit into a sauna or steam room. And shower before you go in, because the chlorine from a bathing suit, or just dirty sweat in general, is awful for other people to have to deal with. You're gonna sweat in a steam room or sauna, but don't bring it in. Think of it as "No outside beverages", but replace beverages with sweat.

12. Do not bring your electronics into the above areas. Aside from the fact that you're gonna ruin your new iPhone by bringing it into the steam room, it looks like you're taking pictures of us, and that is definitely not okay. Also, even if you use headphones, people are gonna hear your awful taste because it's a quiet area.

13. Speaking of which, THE SAUNA AND STEAM ROOM ARE SUPPOSED TO BE QUIET AREAS. I do a lot of my critical thinking and decision-making in those places because it's so serene and relaxing in there. Talk very quietly with your neighbor, but preferably not at all. Definitely do not shout across the person next to you, or hold loud arguments.

14. Don't shave or cut your pubes ANYWHERE in this locker room. Do that at home, because I am really sick of being in the shower and finding a lone pube that is not my own on my foot.

15. Also, please do not blow dry your pubes with the hair dryers. If you really have so much hair down there that toweling off doesn't dry it, then trim or shave it. But again, not here.

16. Don't be a creep. If I see that you're coming to this gym every other day for a year but you haven't lost any weight and you spend most of your time in the shower area, I'm gonna report you.

17. Don't have sex in this locker room.

18. Do not use the sauna or steam room to clean out your foreskin. I really shouldn't have to say this, but it has happened more than once. That is repulsive. Do that in the shower.

19. Flush the damn toilet.

20. When you use the urinal, please stand closer. I am sick of stepping in piss dribblets in my bare feet because someone thought their dick was bigger than it actually was.

21. If your gym provides towels, please do not use the same one when you work out and then in the shower, sauna, and steam room. By the time you're done, you're probably dirtier than you came in.

22. The time you spend in the locker room should not exceed 45 minutes, because then you're just being weird.

23. If someone is being a creep, you should absolutely report them. Don't get embarrassed or scared, if they're making you uncomfortable, you should absolutely get rid of them.

24. That being said, just because someone is doing something unusual does not mean that you get to report them. As long as what they're doing isn't breaking the gym rules, you can't report them.

Those are all the rules I could think of. If you have any more, or disagree with any, leave it below.

*Note: This may not be Boy's Puberty exactly, but I couldn't find a better place to put it. If you know a better place, feel free to move it there*
