Is Petroleum Jelly safe?

I recently used some Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) as a lube in my anus (I didn't do anything illegal or unsafe). But then I read somewhere that that is not safe. So three questions. 1Is it safe to use as lube. 2If not, how can I get it out of my system (will pooping work?) before there is pain. 3Anything better to use?
